Military Junta Executes 3,165 Citizens and Forces Over 1 Million to Flee Their Homes

According to the Media Monitor Collective, the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing has executed 3,165 citizens and destroyed over 19,635 homes through arson from February 2021 to May 2022, following their coup. The military has reportedly burned down over 400 homes in 86 townships across various states and regions, including 12,687 homes in Sagaing Region, 4,304 in Magway Region, 1,376 in Chin State, 360 in Kayah State, 329 in Southern Shan State, 166 in Karen State, 137 in Northern Shan State, 118 in Mandalay Region, 58 in Kachin State, 37 in Tanintharyi Region, 30 in Mon State, 26 in Western Bago Region, 4 in Yangon Region, and 3 in Eastern Bago Region. As a result of these military operations, 12,108,846 people have fled their homes, becoming internally displaced persons. Additionally, 1,112 citizens have sustained injuries due to the junta’s artillery attacks on villages, and 16,251 civilians have been arbitrarily detained, with 1,353 being subjected to inhumane treatment, as reported by the Media Monitor Collective.
