On February 1, a hearing on Myanmar’s situation was held within the Japanese Parliament, attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The event saw participation from parliamentarians, Japanese media, and scholars supporting Myanmar’s cause, alongside representatives of Japanese solidarity groups advocating for democracy in Myanmar.
The hearing aimed to clarify the conditions in Myanmar over the past two years and to highlight the illegitimacy of the military junta. A petition, signed by 56 parliament members, was presented to exert pressure on the Japanese government regarding Myanmar’s situation, along with signatures from Myanmar-Japanese citizens. Additional statements representing the Myanmar community in Japan were also submitted to the Deputy Foreign Minister, calling for concrete actions.
The event was organized with support from the Myanmar community in Japan and was led by parliament members advocating for Myanmar’s democracy in collaboration with the NUG Japan representative office.
