Over 10 villages in Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region, have been under relentless attack by the Myanmar military for five consecutive days, leaving two civilians dead and four others injured, including two children, according to the Karen National Union (KNU).
From November 16 to 19, the military’s Infantry Battalion 264 shelled villages such as Kyaungkon, Khayukon, and Noh Gaw with 120mm artillery. Additionally, junta forces stationed in Nat Thankwin used heavy artillery to target Pe Taung and Thone Bo villages, while drones were deployed to bomb Wapinzu, Chauk Tasezu, Alezu, and Taw Kyone Pauk villages.
In one incident, a drone strike damaged a home and a local clinic in Alezu Village, while a bombing at a school in Taw Kyone Pauk injured two children, Naw Shwe Zin Oo, aged 10, and Naw Thu Mu Yin. A preschool and a Christian church were also destroyed during the attack.
Similarly, junta troops stationed in Kon Chaung Wa shelled Wapinzu Village with 120mm artillery on November 17, destroying at least one home. Thousands of villagers have been displaced, seeking safety from the ongoing violence.
