More than 20 youths have been detained following three consecutive days of military-led raids in Ye-U Town, Sagaing Region, according to Htut Khant Zaw (Amei’s Son), spokesperson for the Ye-U-based People’s Defense Comrade. The detainees are reportedly being held in junta-occupied facilities.
The arrests began on December 10, targeting residents from Shwe Pyithar, Aung Mingalar, and Bo Aung Zeya wards. Local sources reported that soldiers carried out door-to-door searches, apprehending young people suspected of being involved in anti-junta activities.
The detainees are currently confined at Ye-U General Hospital and Basic Education High School No. 1, both of which have been repurposed as military posts. It is reported that the military is preparing to conduct mandatory training for the detainees, and those who have completed such training in the past have been barred from leaving the town.
The crackdown has escalated tensions in the area, with many residents fleeing to avoid arrest. Rights groups have expressed concern over the use of forced detentions and the militarization of civilian spaces.
