Three Civilians, Including Two Children, Killed in Bombing Attacks in Nyanglaypin Township, and 11 Others Injured

At least three civilians, including two children aged 7 and 12, have been killed, and 11 others injured in bombing attacks carried out by the military using artillery and drones on villages in Nyanglaypin District, Pegu Region, according to a statement by the KNU (Karen National Union). The attacks took place over several days in December, with the most recent incidents occurring between December 21 and 23, 2024.

On the morning of December 21, 2024, military forces launched an attack with mines in Thoetthaw Village, where two civilians, 33-year-old Saw Soe Thu and 44-year-old Kyaw Lwin Oo from Pyin Ma Pin Village, were injured.

Later, on the night of December 22, 2024, around 6:55 PM, artillery shells fired by military forces from Kwinchong Village landed in the surrounding area of Htunikoan village. One of the shells exploded in a farm field, and another struck within the village, injuring 45-year-old Saw Khae Paw. The shelling caused further destruction, affecting the civilian population.

The following day, on December 23, 2024, around 4:45 PM, a military drone launched a bomb attack on Kheng Kyi Village, damaging a school building. Less than 5 minutes later, at 4:49 PM, the same military unit launched two more drone bombs targeting Intawkan Village. As a result, 35-year-old Mi Thu Za Win was injured, and a cow was killed in the attack.
