The National Unity Government (NUG) has officially opened its liaison office in Timor-Leste, with Timorese President José Ramos-Horta openly expressing his support for Myanmar’s cause on the international stage, according to NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung.
She made this statement during a press briefing held by the NUG Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. The minister stated that she had visited Timor-Leste in both 2023 and 2024, with the latest visit leading to the establishment of the NUG liaison office in 2024.
“I visited Timor-Leste in 2023, and in 2024, we witnessed a significant development—the establishment of a liaison office in Timor,” Daw Zin Mar Aung said.
The NUG has previously opened liaison offices in countries such as the United States, Japan, South Korea, and the Czech Republic. The latest addition in Timor-Leste marks another milestone in its international engagement efforts.
