Military offensives in Shwegyin and Mone townships of Bago Region have left one civilian dead and two others injured, according to a statement released by the Karen National Union (KNU) headquarters.

On April 24 at around 10:30 a.m., troops from the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion 439 carried out a drone bombing on Thitphyu Seik village in Mone Township, damaging two homes. Later, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the junta forces launched 14 rounds of 120 mm artillery shells from Tankontaing area, some of which exploded in Layeinzu village.

As a result of the shelling, 70-year-old U Win Naing was killed, while two others — 30-year-old Daw Mar Oo and 45-year-old Ko Htun — were injured.

Due to ongoing attacks in the area, more than 4,000 residents from at least seven villages have been forced to flee and are currently in hiding to escape further violence.
