One civilian was killed when Myanmar military forces bombed a monastery sheltering displaced civilians in Zee Taw village, Myinmu Township, Magway Region, according to local residents.
The airstrike took place at around 1:21 p.m. today, when a junta fighter jet dropped bombs on the monastery where civilians fleeing conflict were taking refuge. One woman was killed, seven others were injured—two of them critically—and the monastery buildings, including pagodas, were completely destroyed.
“The monastery where the displaced people were staying was bombed. One woman was killed and around seven people were injured. Two of them are in serious condition. There were children suffering from shock as well. This was a place of refuge and worship for villagers from nearby areas like Kama and Paunglan who had fled here,” a local resident said.
Sources reported that the military carried out the bombing despite there being no active fighting in Zee Taw village at the time.
