Four children were injured in Kyondoe town, Kawkareik Township, Karen State, after the military launched artillery attacks, according to a statement from the Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee.
The shelling occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on July 10, when junta forces fired 120 mm artillery from their newly stationed base in Kyondoe. The shells landed in Myauk Kyain village, in the Kone Myint Thaya Ward, injuring four children.
Among the wounded was a 10-month-old infant who was hit in the forehead by shrapnel. A 10-year-old girl sustained injuries to her right cheek and left knee, with metal fragments still embedded near her ear. A four-year-old girl was also hit in the right ear, and a two-year, eight-month-old boy was struck in the back and left arm.
In a related attack, the military carried out an airstrike on Htee Thay Lel village in Myawaddy Township, near the Thai-Myanmar border, destroying a school and several homes, according to resistance-aligned military sources.
On the afternoon of July 13, two Yak-130 fighter jets dropped seven bombs on the village. The attack reportedly used cluster bombs, which are known for their wide-area damage and lingering danger.
The airstrikes destroyed both the eastern and western wings of the village school, along with small shops and multiple homes in the area, sources said.
