Military Burns 15 Homes in Tarokyin Village and 100 Homes in Three Villages in Kaney

Around noon, the military launched a second attack on Tarokyin Village in Yinmarpin Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the burning of 15 civilian homes, according to sources from the Alawntaw Katapa news team. The military reportedly entered the village, located on the Monya-Kyakyit-Kalay road, and set fire to homes after previously being engaged in a mine ambush in Kaney.

During the military’s first attack on Tarokyin Village, 25 homes were burned down, and this second assault led to the destruction of an additional 15 civilian houses. Following the arson in Tarokyin, reports indicate that the military has now reached Banbwe Village, which is inhabited by internally displaced persons.

Similarly, on May 21, the military entered the villages of Kyunphya, Kaney, and Sainkon in Kaney Township, burning over 100 civilian homes. Before these arson attacks, on May 20, the military reportedly looted materials from civilian homes in these villages before launching their assault.

A local resident stated, “The soldiers burned Tarokyin, Ywathar, and Wekyaung villages, and the next day, Kyunphya Village had about 80 homes burned, Kaney Village had about 30, and Sainkon had one. Fortunately, the locals were able to escape beforehand, so there were no casualties.”
