Over 80 Bodies Recovered After Military Airstrike on KIO Celebration in Hpakant, Many Injured Seeking Medical Care

Kachin news sources report that more than 80 bodies have been recovered following a military airstrike on a music concert held in Hpakant on the evening of October 23, with many others injured still seeking medical treatment.

The airstrike occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. during the concert marking the 62nd anniversary of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO). Among the deceased are Kachin artists, singers, musicians, youth, and civilians.

“We have confirmed over 80 bodies. We are also working to ensure that those who are injured receive medical care,” stated a Kachin news source.

Reports indicate that the attack targeted the venue while artists and civilians were in attendance at the concert.
