Arson Attacks by Armed Forces Result in Destruction of 95 Homes and One Civilian Casualty in Various Villages

In the regions of Minkin, Wetlet, Palaung, and Butalin, local sources report that armed forces conducted arson attacks today, resulting in the destruction of 95 homes and the death of one civilian.

In Minkin, 26 homes were set ablaze in two villages, with one civilian reportedly shot dead.

In the Minkin district of Sagaing Region, it is reported that two villages, Konmaw and Kyaungmaw, were attacked by the armed forces, leading to the destruction of 26 homes. During the afternoon of November 8, the military set fire to civilian homes, killing 55-year-old U Thein Lin from Konmaw village, who was suffering from health issues.

A spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force Taung Dwin Region – Mingin stated, “Today, on the 8th, the armed forces and their militias attacked the homes of civilians in Konmaw and Kyaungmaw villages, destroying about 30 homes. They also looted civilian property.”

In Kyaungmaw village, over 30 militia members had been stationed for nearly a year. At around 12:00 PM, they entered Konmaw village, firing various weapons and destroying over 12 civilian homes while killing U Thein Lin, who was suffering from health problems.

Following the arson, the armed forces further invaded Kyaungmaw village, destroying an additional 14 homes. After the attacks, local civilians reported that their cash and belongings were also looted, and livestock, including cows and pigs raised by villagers, were shot. The armed forces withdrew from Kyaungmaw village around 3:00 PM, and many villagers are still in hiding.

In Wetlet, the armed forces conducted a second round of arson attacks in the Pitaungkhon village, resulting in the destruction of 61 homes.

On November 8, around 7:00 AM, the armed forces stationed in a new village attacked Pitaungkhon village for the second time, burning down 61 homes.

After attacking Pitaungkhon village, the armed forces moved west towards a monastery in the Sabaytaw village, as reported by GZ Special Task Force – Wetlet.

In Palaung, three homes were also destroyed in the Tabo village due to military arson.

In Tanintharyi Region, it was reported that the armed forces set fire to three homes in Tabo village on November 8 at around 11:30 AM. After the military vehicles, consisting of seven trucks, were ambushed by the Tabo defense group with two mines, they entered the village and burned three civilian homes. An injury was reported among the civilians due to the armed forces’ indiscriminate shooting.

In Butalin, five homes were destroyed in the Shanthe village due to arson by the armed forces.

On the morning of November 8, the armed forces invaded Shanthe village, burning down five civilian homes and looting bicycles. A local resident stated, “This morning, the armed forces set fire to five homes in Shanthe village, and they also took bicycles from the village.”
