The Kachin Christian Group has issued a statement today calling for the immediate release of Dr. Kalamsan Sun, an advisor to the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC), who was arrested by the military this morning at Mandalay Airport. Dr. Sun was detained by the military while attempting to travel to Bangkok, Thailand, causing great concern among the KBC members.
The Kachin Christian Group has expressed deep anxiety over Dr. Sun’s arbitrary arrest and detention by the military, urging for his prompt release. Dr. Kalamsan Sun has served as the General Secretary and Chairman of KBC and is currently acting in an advisory capacity within the organization.
A Kachin news source reported, “It appears that the monk is currently being held in custody for interrogation. There are reports that he was taken by airplane from the Mandalay Airport to the river area.”
