The Myanmar military raided Dipeyin Village in Sagaing Township on the morning of January 6, killing four people, including a monk from the Sitagu Buddha University, Mahabodhi monk Ashin Gandasara, according to local sources. The village was also set ablaze, with over 70 houses destroyed in the attack.
According to witnesses, the military entered the village along with Pyusawhti forces, firing heavy weapons as they advanced. Among the victims were three civilians and one member of the local defense forces. The monk, renowned for his Buddhist scholarship, was reportedly targeted despite having no political involvement. Villagers reported that the military had long targeted Dipeyin, with Pyusawhti leaders pointing them toward the village, allegedly seeking ransom payments from the residents.
