In Mandalay Region, a monk from Sakhamah Village in Myingyan Township was shot dead by the military, according to local residents. On June 22, at around 9:30 PM, the military, stationed between Maung Yin and Sakhamah along the city bypass road, fired upon an ambulance accompanying the monk, resulting in his death. It was reported that the monk was attacked while transporting a critically ill patient from the village to Myingyan.
A local resident explained, “There was a critically ill patient in the village, so the monk personally took him. They were ambushed near the exit gate of Myingyan. The vehicle was also marked with a humanitarian aid organization logo. The monk was sitting in the front while transporting the patient. The time was just past 9 PM. The monk often personally takes patients to avoid danger if there are critical cases in the village. Now, the military has shot him dead.”
The Myingyan-based Black Tiger PDF group stated that the monk, U Uttama, was shot by the military while on the way to deliver a patient and confirmed that there was no military operation taking place at that time.
