In an ongoing show of force, the military junta has been preparing for a potential confrontation with People’s Defense Forces (PDF) in Ye U Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of one civilian due to indiscriminate shelling. This was confirmed by Tu Khaing Zaw (Amethe), a spokesperson for the People’s Defense Comrades based in Ye U.
Fearful of an impending attack by PDF forces, troops stationed in Ye U have been bombarding civilian-populated areas daily with heavy artillery. Reports indicate that villages to the north, south, and west of Ye U town have been subjected to relentless shelling by the military.
Moreover, soldiers from the junta are reportedly deploying barricades in the southern outskirts of Ye U and setting up fortifications near the Gawyi park area.
As a result of the heavy shelling by the military in Ye U town, an artillery shell struck a village around 7 PM on July 4, leading to the death of a 37-year-old man, Ma Aye Soe.
