Military Shelling Destroys Ancient Pagodas in Tso Village, Nawhtokyi Township

In Tso Village, Nawhtokyi Township of Mandalay Region, artillery shelling by the military has reportedly damaged two ancient pagodas, according to local news sources.

Last night, around 8 PM on August 15, troops from the military’s Battalion 99 stationed in Myingyan conducted shelling on Tso Village, impacting the historical Hlaing Shwe pagoda and smaller stupas dedicated to the Great Mother, located within the temple grounds.

A local news source stated, “The troops under Myingyan’s command are shelling daily; on the 14th, a shell struck a small stupa within the Shwe Pwin Sin temple, resulting in its destruction. Nearby houses were also damaged, and residents have been affected.”

Since the initiation of the Myingyan District Special Operation (MDSO) on August 10, it has been reported that Battalion 15 has been shelling the Nawhtokyi and Taungtha townships daily.
