Military Kidnappings Youths in Mahaaungmyay Township

Residents in various neighborhoods of Mahaaungmyay Township, Mandalay, reported that youths were detained by military personnel and administrative officials using two pickup trucks.

At approximately 9:45 PM on August 30, military forces carried out the detentions in the neighborhoods of Bodhi Kone, Kanhla, Aung Chan Aye, and others, with those apprehended being taken for questioning at the Aung Chan Aye township office.

Among those detained, it has been revealed that at least one mother of a youth who had fled to join the resistance was also included in the arrests.

A local resident stated, “Four youths and one person with a previous conviction, along with a mother, were taken.” Another resident added, “Last night around 9 PM, the military used two pickup trucks to specifically detain youths from Bodhi Kone, Dinkaw, Kanhla, and Aung Chan Aye neighborhoods. A mother was also taken after her son was found missing.”
