A ground protest was held in San Francisco, California, on September 1, led by the Free Burma Action Committee-Northern California. The protest, themed “Oppose the Authoritarian Sham Elections with People’s Power, Dismantle with People’s Strength,” marked the 138th ground demonstration, uniting various revolutionary groups and supportive citizens.
The protest aimed to oppose the sham elections and raise awareness about increasing general oppression. Revolutionary groups expressed strong opposition to threats from the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) sent by the national security committee of the State of Shan. They condemned the acts of aggression by the Chinese Communist Party against other authoritarian regimes. Notably, U Kyaw Mo Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, called for ongoing protests to bolster international solidarity during the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
