In the eastern part of Nawhtokyi township in Mandalay Region, a military airstrike targeted a monastery, injuring an 80-year-old monk and causing significant damage to the monastery and school, according to local news sources.
On October 23, at around 2:40 PM, the military junta conducted four airstrikes with a jet fighter on the mountain-top monastery in the Minson Taung forest area of Nawhtokyi township. An 80-year-old monk, known as the school abbot, sustained serious injuries, and both the monastery and the Dhamma hall were completely destroyed.
According to local sources, “The abbot is receiving emergency medical treatment. The monastery and Dhamma hall are entirely ruined. None of the monks can reside there now. This is an airstrike without any ongoing battle.” The statement was made to the Yangon Times.
Similarly, in Seikphyu township of Magway Region, a school in the Western Kanphyu village was also targeted in an airstrike by the military junta, leading to damage to the school facilities, as reported by local residents to the Yangon Times.
On October 24, around 4 PM, the military junta carried out airstrikes using an Mi-35 helicopter, dropping two bombs on a high school without any ongoing combat, followed by gunfire from machine guns, resulting in damage to the school structure. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
A local resident stated, “After dropping the bombs, they fired with machine guns. There was no battle. This is a high school. The bombs fell right next to the dormitory. Fortunately, the students were unharmed. We are still worried about when they might attack again.” This was reported to the Yangon Times.
