UN Special Rapporteur Mr. Tom Andrews has called for more decisive and effective international measures against Myanmar’s military junta. Mr. Andrews made this appeal during the “Action Day for Burma/Myanmar” event held in New York City on October 30, emphasizing the urgency for stronger actions.
Presenting his latest report at the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Andrews highlighted Myanmar’s current human rights crisis and urged the global community to adopt more impactful measures against the military regime. He noted that previous efforts have been insufficient to curb the junta’s continued abuses.
Several ministers from Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) attended the event, including Human Rights Minister U Aung Myo Min, who expressed the Myanmar people’s hope for more robust international responses. He called on the global community to resist the junta’s tactics and accelerate sanctions and other actions against the regime.
Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs U Moe Zaw Oo, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, and Minister for International Cooperation Dr. Sasa, who echoed the call for prompt and resolute actions against the junta.
