In Shwebo District, Sagaing Region, junta forces have been stationed at a military base for 9 days and carried out an assault near Obo village, executing 5 civilians and using heavy artillery to destroy a monastery and homes in surrounding villages, according to local residents.
Starting on the morning of October 30, 2024, around 8 a.m., the junta forces entered Obo village in the western part of Shwebo and launched heavy artillery attacks, which lasted for two days. The military occupation in Obo village resulted in the execution of 5 civilians near Obo Mu Baung, with their bodies discarded. The identities of the victims have not been confirmed, and the bodies were reportedly in a state of disfigurement, making identification difficult.
Furthermore, the junta forces destroyed civilian homes during their occupation of Obo village, looted valuable items, and set fire to three motorbikes. On November 1, 2024, heavy artillery fire continued in Chi Pa village, where junta troops were stationed for seven days, causing destruction in both Obo and Chi Pa villages. The shelling damaged 8 homes, a factory, and a monastery, while 6 civilians were reported injured in the attack.
