Over 5,000 IDPs in DePalyin and Ye Oo Townships in Need of Blankets and Clothing as Cold Weather Causes Illnesses

Over 5,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in DePalYin and Ye Oo townships, Sagaing Region, are in urgent need of warm clothing and blankets as cold weather conditions have caused illnesses, particularly among the elderly, according to the People’s Defense Comrade spokesperson, Htoo Khant Zaw (Amei Thar).

Many villagers from DePalYin and Ye Oo townships have been forced to rebuild their homes with makeshift huts after their original homes and belongings were destroyed by fires set by the military junta. However, these newly built huts are also being targeted and burned by the military, forcing civilians to continue seeking refuge in other areas.

Currently, while no military encampments have been established in the region, displaced people are forced to seek shelter in forests and makeshift huts built in the wilderness due to ongoing military activity. As the winter cold intensifies, warm clothing and blankets are urgently needed, particularly for the elderly and children who are more vulnerable to the cold.
