Airstrikes on Kani Township Villages Kill Five Civilians, Including Two Children

The Myanmar military conducted airstrikes on two villages in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, despite the absence of any ongoing clashes. The attacks, carried out on the night of December 16, resulted in the deaths of five civilians, including two children, according to local sources.

Military aircraft from the Magway Air Base dropped bombs on Kyauk Hlakar Village and Nat Kyi Village at around 8 p.m. The casualties included Maung Nge Chit, an 11-year-old boy; Ko Kyaw Naing Lin, 30; Ma Shwe Zin Win, 19; Ma Nyo Nyo, 14; and Daw Pyone, 45. Two houses were destroyed, and one cow was also killed during the assault.

“Four bombs were dropped on Kyauk Hlakar Village, killing five residents. The destruction also included two homes and livestock. There was no fighting in the area at the time,” said a local villager from Kyauk Hlakar.
