A junta warplane carried out a low-altitude bombing and strafing attack on Sai Yar Ta Nar Pariyatti Monastery in Naungcho, northern Shan State, killing 14 people, including nine monks and five civilians, according to local residents.
The airstrike began at 5:26 PM on March 16, with the military aircraft dropping four bombs in two rounds. The attack was followed by two rounds of machine-gun fire from the aircraft, targeting the monastery compound.
The assault resulted in the deaths of the monks and civilians, adding to the growing number of casualties from airstrikes in conflict-affected areas.
