Military troops and Pyu Saw Htee abduct and kill nine civilians including a displaced villager in Kanbalu, torching homes

In Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, junta troops and members of the Pyu Saw Htee militia reportedly detained and brutally killed nine civilians, including a displaced villager from Hswan A, and set fire to civilian homes, according to a member of the Kyunhla Activist Group.

On the morning of June 23 around 8:30 a.m., a military column comprising around 100 junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee members launched an assault on Sapyaw and Kyaung Kone villages through Wettoe (South) village, using heavy and light weapons. Over the following three days, the group conducted raids, abducted civilians, looted valuable belongings, and burned down homes.

The victims who were detained and later tortured and executed included 50-year-old U Hlaing Zaza from Hswan A, 45-year-old U Aung Naing, U Tayote Gyi, 34-year-old Ko Myo Htet, 53-year-old U Win from Folgone village, 60-year-old U Chit Win, 37-year-old Ko Thein Toe from Kyaung Kone village, 45-year-old U Myint Maung, and U Myo San. One of the victims was reportedly burned alive.
