Intense fighting broke out this morning in and around Kyaung Pya village, near Mone town in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region, forcing residents to flee for safety. The junta, suffering heavy casualties, has responded by launching airstrikes using fighter jets, local sources reported.
Clashes between the KNLA, PDF, and junta forces began before 4 a.m., leading to widespread panic among civilians in surrounding villages. “People are fleeing with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The fighting is severe near Mone town in Kyaukkyi. The military has taken heavy losses and is now bombing the area with fighter jets,” said one local. Residents from Kyaung Pya and nearby villages have been fleeing towards the Sittaung River, seeking refuge from the violence.
Sources say the fighting is concentrated around military camps in the area, including Mae Pote, Kyunpin Saik, Aung Laung Sein, and the eastern part of Mone, involving troops from Battalion 599 and Battalion 590. Civilians are facing food and shelter shortages as they scramble to escape the crossfire and find safety in the ongoing conflict.
