Military Arrests Pro-Democracy Leader Ko Kyaw Win Sein in Homalin

The military has arrested Ko Kyaw Win Sein, the leader of the pro-democracy protests against military rule in Homalin, Sagaing Region, on August 1 in Mandalay, and he is now reportedly in danger.

According to a statement from the local governing body in Homalin, he was arrested by military junta members while waiting for medical treatment at a hospital in Mandalay.

Ko Kyaw Win Sein is said to have committed no crimes and is recognized as a protest leader representing the people’s desires. The Homalin People’s Administration has condemned the unjust arrest and warned that if Ko Kyaw Win Sein faces psychological torture or oppression, those responsible will be held accountable.

Following his unjust arrest, Ko Kyaw Win Sein was reportedly transported from Mandalay Airport to a military detention facility in Homalin on August 2 (today).

Ko Kyaw Win Sein is known to have frequently engaged in armed conflict with the Shan National Army (SNA) in recent times.

On October 24 of last year, a gunman, whose identity remains unknown, shot and killed his fiancée, Ma Ma Nge, a school teacher involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), in the Nyaung Pya Kyaung area of Homalin.
