AA Captures Remaining Military Base in Thanthwe; Plans Continued Assault on Junta Forces in Town

July 11, 2024

The Arakan Army (AA) has officially announced the capture of the remaining military base, Kha La 55 Battalion, in Thanthwe Township, Rakhine State, and will continue to engage with the junta forces that are currently entrenched in the town.

The AA has been steadily assaulting the remaining junta positions within the Arakan region, with ongoing intense battles primarily occurring in Thanthwe and Maungdaw townships, where two junta bases have also been reported captured.

On July 9 at around 9:45 AM, the AA successfully launched an assault on Kha La 55 Battalion, one of the remaining bases of the junta in Thanthwe. This operation led to the seizure of a significant amount of military supplies and weapons. Previously, another base, Kha Ma Ra 566, was entirely captured on June 27 at 5:30 PM. After this event, defecting soldiers and those providing assistance from other units have been preparing for assaults against the remaining junta troops in and around Thanthwe, indicating that the entire town may soon be fully under AA control.
