Airstrike by Military Targets Refugee Villages in Myingyan and Pakokku, Monastery Destroyed

In Myingyan and Pakokku Districts of Magway Region, an airstrike by the military on refugee villages resulted in the death of a monk and severe injuries to numerous civilians, including children aged 4 and 7. An official from the Anti-Junta Coalition reported the incident.

On August 7, the military launched airstrikes using Mi-35 and fighter jets on the northern and southeastern refugee villages in Pakokku District and Myingyan. This attack caused the death of one monk and left many civilians, including young children, severely injured.

Among the injured were 84-year-old Daw San, a 4-year-old boy, 54-year-old Ma Thein, 60-year-old Ma Kyi, 13-year-old Ye Nain, 15-year-old Kyaw Kyaw, another 15-year-old Maung Lwin, 7-year-old Nge Nge, 55-year-old Ko Moe, 45-year-old U Khine, and three civilians from Shitma village. Reports indicate that one monk, aged 30, also perished in the attack.

The monastery in Shitma village and its adjacent buildings were reportedly destroyed during the airstrikes by the military.
