In Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, members of the military seized two civilians riding motorbikes without justification and robbed them of 500,000 kyats and their motorcycles, local residents reported.
On August 13, at a military checkpoint in Seikkhon village, armed soldiers detained two male travelers on motorcycles, confiscating 500,000 kyats, a travel bag, and one motorcycle.
The victims, hailing from Kyaunglin Township, were reportedly passing the Seikkhon police station on the Shwebo-Seikkhon-Monywa road when the soldiers, armed with guns, conducted arbitrary checks, seizing their money and motorcycle.
A local resident explained, “They were stopped on the pretext of riding two motorcycles, and when we were forced to open our bags, they saw the money. They threatened us with guns and ordered the civilians to run away, and those two managed to escape.”
Soldiers stationed at the Seikkhon police checkpoint are known to collect large sums of money from vehicles traveling along the Shwebo-Seikkhon-Mukamgyi-Monywa road, taking advantage of travelers from various townships.
