The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has captured Battalion 437, the final junta stronghold near Momauk, Kachin State, according to KIA spokesperson Colonel Naw Bu. The battalion was fully overrun at 3:10 p.m. today, following nearly a month of intense fighting that began on July 24.

“We have taken Battalion 437,” Colonel Naw Bu confirmed, adding that KIA and allied forces are now conducting clearance operations in the area. The battalion, which housed around 500 junta troops, was the last remaining military base in Momauk Township, which is now entirely free of junta forces.

Previously, KIA had captured the town’s police station and other military bases on May 7 and 8. With today’s victory, Momauk Township is now completely liberated from junta control, KIA sources stated.
