Military Airstrikes and Artillery Shelling in Sittwe and Thandwe Result in Civilian Injuries and Extensive Structural Damage

In Rakhine State’s Sittwe and Thandwe, military airstrikes and artillery shelling have resulted in injuries to five civilians, including one monk, while causing significant damage to monasteries, schools, and cyclone shelters, according to Rakhine regional news sources.
On the evening of October 26 at 8:35 p.m., a military aircraft reportedly dropped bombs on a cyclone shelter in Nyo Yaung Village, Sittwe. The cyclone shelter, which has no affiliation with military activities, sustained extensive damage, and four civilians were injured in the blast, according to Arakan Princess Media.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. the same night, the 344th Battalion stationed in Sittwe allegedly launched artillery strikes on Kwun Taung and Sbar Htar villages in Ponnagyun Township.
Additionally, on October 25, at 4:25 p.m., a military aircraft is reported to have conducted an airstrike targeting Sin Khaung and Khamong Tone villages in Thandwe Township. The airstrike caused substantial damage to the Sin Khaung Village high school and the Khamong Tone Village monastery, injuring the resident abbot, Ashin Nyanika, in Khamong Tone.
