Sixteen Civilians, Including Children, Killed in Military Airstrikes, Shelling, and Paratrooper Attacks in Monywa, Chaung-U, and Salin-Gyi

February 13, 2025 Overnight from February 12 to February 13, 2025, military operations in Sagaing Region’s Monywa, Chaung-U, and Salin-Gyi have resulted in the deaths of 16 civilians, including children. The attacks, carried out without active clashes on the ground, involved airstrikes using Y-12 aircraft, artillery shelling, and assaults by paratroopers, according to statements from the Chaung-U Sayadaw and a representative of the Sagaing Support Network (SSN). Beginning the night of February 12, military aircraft targeted southern Monywa and western Chaung-U areas, deploying 30 bombs in nine sorties. On the morning of February 13, airstrikes intensified in southern Monywa and parts of Salin-Gyi Township, with a total of 48 bombs dropped in nine additional sorties, according to reports. The bombings resulted in the deaths of 14 civilians on February 13. These attacks, which devastated local communities, highlight the escalating impact of military operations in the region.
