According to statements from local resistance forces, military airstrikes and artillery shelling by the junta in Matara, Beelin, and Kyaukhto townships have killed two people—including a young child—and injured 18 others.
On July 3, around 3:00 PM, the junta carried out an airstrike on Wawrawthit village in Matara township without any ongoing battle, resulting in the death of a child and injuries to seven others, including an infant, according to the Mandalay People’s Defense Forces.
Similarly, artillery shelling by the military on Wawrawthit village from Matara city caused the death of a 75-year-old elder and injuries to about 10 others.
A relief worker from Matara township commented, “Though there is little direct fighting in Matara, the military frequently shells villages indiscriminately. Many residents cannot return to their homes due to fear of airstrikes and advancing military columns. The junta mainly controls Matara town.”
Additionally, on June 26, artillery fire from military bases 44th Battalion and Khamar 2 Brigade in Leikay village, Myitkyo township, Mon State, caused explosions within the village and damaged two houses.
