A young man from Shwe Pyi Thar Township, who had been detained for forced military recruitment during a junta-led conscription campaign in Hlaing Township’s Okkhin Ward, died after jumping from a two-story dormitory building, according to Shwe Pyi Thar Information sources.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on July 9 during a military roundup in Okkhin Ward. The victim, who reportedly suffered from mental illness, had been detained by junta troops and housed in a two-story building within a military compound when he jumped from the upper floor.
After the fall, junta soldiers transferred him to Mingaladon 1000-bed Military Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries around 10:00 p.m. that night due to the severity of the trauma, the source said.
“He landed on concrete. The young man wasn’t mentally stable — he was dealing with psychological issues and had been in and out of hospitals. He looked to be between 20 and 25 years old, fair-skinned, neat, and tall. We heard he was taken from Shwe Pyi Thar and had been detained there for about 10 days. Last night, we were told he passed away at around 10,” said a representative from Shwe Pyi Thar Information.
