The Myanmar military carried out two airstrikes early this morning on a monastery in Lain Taluu Village, Sagaing Township, that was sheltering displaced civilians, killing at least 28 people, according to local resistance sources. The number of deaths is expected to rise due to the high number of injuries.
The air raids took place between midnight and 1:00 a.m. on July 11, when junta fighter jets dropped bombs twice on the monastery, which had become a refuge for civilians fleeing conflict in the region.
“Around 1 a.m., the military bombed the monastery in Lain Taluu where IDPs were staying. So far, 28 people, including both children and adults, have been confirmed dead. Many others were injured, so the death toll could increase. Most of the victims were displaced villagers from Kyaw Zeya,” a local resistance source said.
