Airstrike Kills 15 Civilians in Wetlet Township Villages

Fifteen civilian bodies have been recovered after military aircraft dropped bombs on three villages in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, according to local residents.

The airstrike, carried out without any ongoing clashes on July 17 around 5 p.m., targeted the villages of Yaylemaw, Shargwe, and Ngapatchaung. Elderly women were reportedly among the victims, and locals were able to retrieve 15 bodies in the aftermath.

“People are living in displacement. Yesterday evening, the military dropped bombs from aircraft. We’ve recovered 15 civilian bodies—nine from Ngapatchaung, one from Yaylemaw, and five from Shargwe. There was no fighting at all,” said a resident from the area.
