May 23, 2022.

In the village of Nagathingan, Dipayin Township, Sagaing Region, 52 homes were reported to have been burned down by military forces on May 22, according to local residents. The military reportedly occupied the village for the entire day and set fire to civilian homes at will.

A local resident stated, “In Nagathingan, 45 primary homes were burned. In addition to those, seven smaller houses under construction in the compound have also been lost, totaling 52 homes. Many locals are back in the village trying to extinguish the fires. The properties are large enough that it’s not easy to avoid fire spreading from one house to another. The soldiers made sure to burn each house individually.”

Reports indicate that heavy artillery fire from the military also struck the village area, destroying two homes and killing three cattle.

In addition to targeting civilian homes, the military also set fire to the residence of General Myo Nge (Nge) in Nagathingan, who is currently serving in Kapas, and destroyed property from the house of another serving general. Furthermore, the home of a general’s grandparents was also burned down.
