In the Kanzu Taw area of Yinmarpin Township, Sagaing Region, the military has set fire to civilian homes during an attack that occurred in the afternoon of July 21, according to local residents from the Bwan Bwe village.
The civilian homes in Kanzu Taw were reportedly being destroyed by the military, which had entered the area along with the Pyu Saw Htee militia. Some residents have been detained, but the exact number remains unconfirmed.
A local resident stated, “The arson started around 1 PM, and the military has been firing from Bwan Bwe. Since they arrived, local people have been fleeing. There are also some who have been detained. I’ve heard that they have taken those people into Bwan Bwe, but I cannot confirm that. We believe they may have left some areas untouched, so we haven’t gone back in yet. I cannot accurately state the number of homes that are on fire.”
On June 6, the military had also set fire to nine civilian homes and three IDP shelters in the northern part of Bwan Bwe, and reports indicate that they are stationed in Bwan Bwe. Additionally, military checkpoints are being set up along the Monwya-Yakyi-Kalay road, where inspections and extortion activities are taking place.
