The National Unity Government (NUG) has opened its embassy in Australia on August 3, with attendance from Australian lawmakers and officials from the Foreign Affairs Department, as reported by the NUG’s embassy in Australia.
During the opening ceremony, letters from the NUG’s Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung and Minister of Justice U Thein U were read. Speeches were delivered by various political party representatives, including Deputy Minister of Human Rights Khun Bahant, Mr. Peter Khalil MP (Labor Party), Senator the Hon. David Fawcett (Liberal Party), and Senator Jordon Steele-John (the Greens Party), as well as representatives from the CRPH/NUG Support Group (Australia) and the Indigenous Advisory Council.
Representing Myanmar families, Professor Dr. Aye Than Min, Mr. Christopher Lamb (President of the Australia Myanmar Institute), and Academy Min Maung Kin shared their thoughts on the spring revolution, while the NUG’s Ambassador to Australia, Dr. Tun Aung Shwe, expressed gratitude.
At this event, the Australian Greens party, one of Australia’s major parties, announced its recognition of the NUG as the legitimate government of Myanmar, encouraging other Australian political parties to follow suit.
It was also noted that high-ranking officials from Australia’s Foreign Affairs Department and New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister for Australia attended the ceremony.
