In the morning of August 14, the military arrested Kachin State MP U Myo Kyaw and political activist Ko Sine Maung at the 21 Mile Gate in Myitkyina. Reports indicate that the two were traveling together when they were detained by the military.
At around 10 a.m., while crossing the 21 Mile Gate, U Myo Kyaw and Ko Sine Maung were stopped and arrested not for being known individuals but rather for having NUG documents in their possession. A friend of U Myo Kyaw stated, “Their arrest was not due to recognition but rather the discovery of NUG documents. They were arrested at 10 a.m., and Ko Sine Maung was also detained alongside him. We are worried that they might be indiscriminately arrested without anyone knowing.”
Currently, it remains unclear where U Myo Kyaw and Ko Sine Maung are being held, and there are concerns for their safety, although both were reported to be in good health at the time of their arrest.
