Ko We Mo Nay, a leader of the anti-military protests in Moenyin, Sagaing Region, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the military junta after being arrested in April of last year. On August 12, the Moenyin prison court sentenced him to 10 years, and he is currently facing additional charges.
A friend of Ko We Mo Nay reported, “The Moenyin court sentenced him to 10 years for five charges under Section 505. He is also facing further legal proceedings on other charges.” In addition to the charges of murder and violations of disaster laws, multiple other charges have been brought against him.
Similarly, on July 24, Ko Thet Tin Aung, a member of the central executive committee of the student-led Vakasar group, was sentenced to six years in Taungoo prison. Furthermore, on August 4, the Mandalay court sentenced Ko Myat Thu, a leader of the Ratanapone University student union and Vakasar group, to three years under Section 505.
In another case, on August 10, the Obo prison court sentenced former president of the Yangon Education University Student Union Ko Naung Htet Aung and teachers from the Basic Education Strike Committee (BEGSC), including teacher Nyi Tha Kyaw, to three years each in prison.
