According to legal sources, the military junta has sentenced the people’s leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, to three years in prison for each of two separate charges, resulting in a total prison sentence of 26 years. The junta determined that for two allegations of wrongdoing, she would receive a six-year sentence, with the sentences to be served concurrently, thus resulting in a total of 26 years in prison.
Aung San Suu Kyi, now 76 years old, had already been sentenced to 11 years when this ruling was made today regarding four additional charges. For three of these charges, she received a three-year sentence each, and one additional charge was also sentenced to three years. On September 2, she was sentenced to six years for the four charges, bringing her total to 17 years. Following this, on October 12, she received an additional six-year sentence, increasing her total to 26 years.
The military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, captured Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1, 2021, in an attempt to seize power unlawfully.
