Over 50 Houses Destroyed by Military Arson Attack in Japanese Island Village, Nganzun Township

More than 50 homes were destroyed after the military set fire to Japanese Island Village in Nganzun Township, Mandalay Region, according to U Pyigyidagun Sayadaw. The arson attack took place in the early morning hours of January 17, 2023, around 4 a.m., when the military stormed the village and burned down homes. U Pyigyidagun Sayadaw said, “At around 4 a.m., the military raided Japanese Island Village, which has over 100 houses, shooting and setting fire to the village. Over 50 homes were completely destroyed.” After the raid, the soldiers left the village, taking with them four ox carts and various possessions of the villagers, as well as some cattle.
