MNDAA Rescues Over 470 Abandoned Soldiers and Families from Lashio Military Hospital

August 3, 2024

The MNDAA has rescued more than 470 soldiers and their family members who were abandoned by the junta at Lashio Military Hospital, according to a statement released by the group. After the military forces of Min Aung Hlaing left behind injured soldiers and their families at the military hospital in Lashio, the MNDAA transferred them to a safe location.

On August 1, 2024, as MNDAA forces continued to attack remaining junta troops at the Northeastern Command Headquarters in Lashio, it was discovered that the military had retreated from the hospital, leaving behind more than 470 injured soldiers and their families. Many of those abandoned were severely wounded soldiers, most of whom were disabled. Their superiors and comrades had cruelly deserted them, and in line with MNDAA’s policy of humane treatment, the group took steps to relocate the injured and their families to a safer place, despite ongoing heavy fighting.

During the evacuation, MNDAA troops carried disabled soldiers on their backs and treated some of the severely injured while transporting them to safety.
