Destruction and Tightened Restrictions in Sabe Village, Pakkoku Township by Armed Forces

January 4, 2025

Pakkoku Township, Magway Region—Reports from local revolutionary sources indicate that the Myanmar military forces have destroyed 144 homes in Sabe Village, located in the town of Myitche, through arson and other forms of attack. In addition, military forces have imposed strict control over entry and exit routes to the town, preventing civilians from leaving the urban area.

The destruction began on December 31, when armed military units entered Sabe Village and torched civilian homes, leading to the collapse of 144 buildings over the course of two consecutive days.

Currently, after retreating from the area near Aungthapyu and Pyusohti villages, revolutionary groups are reportedly conducting operations to clear the surrounding territories.

From December 30, military forces began clearing the region to facilitate the movement of their artillery and other military equipment through Myitche Town and Kamma Town. Armed forces continued to fire heavy weapons at nearby villages, causing extensive destruction through arson.

As a result of heavy artillery bombardment, five civilians in Myitche Town were killed, and ten others sustained severe injuries. Although the military forces have retreated, residents are still fleeing to avoid the ongoing conflict.

In addition to these attacks, military forces have enforced strict measures within Pakkoku Town, restricting civilians from leaving the area. Only those who have paid bribes are being allowed to exit, according to sources on the ground.
