CID Deputy Chief Zaw Win has been sentenced to three years in prison for his comments describing the military as “worse than soulless beasts” in connection with the brutal killings of civilians by military vehicles. This information was obtained from police sources.

The incident occurred on December 5 of last year in the Kyimyindaing Township of Yangon, where the military attacked and killed young anti-coup protesters. Zaw Win’s remarks, stating that the military was “worse than soulless beasts,” led to his arrest by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department).

Zaw Win, the CID’s training school head, was apprehended in February and has now been sentenced to three years in prison for violating police regulations, with additional charges filed under Section 505 (b).

A police source commented, “The three-year sentence is for violating police discipline regulations, and he has also been charged under Section 505 (b).” Furthermore, it has been reported that his friend, Major General Min Aung, who has criticized the military, has also been arrested.
