Villagers in Mon State’s Beelin Township reported that a full day of aerial attacks by military helicopters and fighter jets led to the destruction of homes and a monastery. According to locals who spoke with Yangon Khit Thit News, the strikes targeted villages, setting multiple houses on fire.
The attacks began around 8 a.m. in the KNU Brigade 1 area in Mon State’s Thaton Township. Heavy artillery, helicopters, and fighter jets were used throughout the day. As a result, three homes and one monastery in Lay Kay village were destroyed.
“Around 8 a.m., they started firing 120mm shells from Kamamaung toward Lay Kay. By 11 a.m., two helicopters arrived from Mawlamyine, firing over 20 rounds of artillery. Later, a fighter jet joined the assault, and at 4:30 p.m., two more jets from the Taungoo airbase attacked again. Several people were injured, and houses caught fire after the airstrikes,” said a local MP from Beelin Township.
Another local added, “Three residents from Lay Kay were injured. People are fleeing. The village has been hit by airstrikes, and three houses are now burning. The monastery is also on fire. Phone signals are unstable.”
