Fighting erupted between the armed forces and local defense groups near Maekon Village in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, with the military launching an aerial attack on the village using two helicopters. Reports from locals indicate that soldiers entered the village, bombarded homes, and set them ablaze, causing widespread destruction.
According to a resident, “The battle started around 9 AM. The PDFs were still holding out when the military dropped two bombs from their aircraft. Soldiers entered the village and started setting fires. Some houses were destroyed by bombs, and from the outside, it looks like nothing has happened, but there’s nothing left inside. The entire village has been devastated.”
The military’s aerial attack on Maekon Village has resulted in significant destruction, with almost all homes reported damaged and substantial losses incurred. A local further commented, “Some houses had hundreds of paddy stacks, while others had over five hundred. Everything has been burned, and all the rice milling machines have been destroyed.”
On June 12, the armed forces attacked Uyar Village, on June 13, Tamakone Village, and today, Maekon Village, setting fires and causing destruction.
